ART ATTACK: call to action, 2012

ART ATTACK: call to action is this year's annual OAEA conference taking place in Hamilton at McMaster University from October 12-13. The theme addresses the larger and perhaps most important truth about art: art is visceral. Art is not just something that we create; art exists because we exist. What does this mean within the context of the real world, in the context of education and society? Educators at this conference will be able to celebrate and explore innovative ways of teaching visual and media arts, and promoting art programmes in schools and communities. Workshops should address the need to act locally but think globally. It is time to become change agents, to take a proactive stance in supporting and extolling our rich and diverse visual culture. DEADLINE EXTENDED: We are currently looking for interesting and dynamic presenters willing to take on the challenge and share their ideas and make a difference in art education. Interested art educators are encouraged to download the Conference Proposal (link handout to "Conference Proposal") and email conference@oaea.ca by Friday, May 11, 2012.
freshstART, October 15-16, 2011
It's time for a "freshstART" for OAEA - an new name, a new constitution, and a new website - all aimed at strengthening visual and media arts education in Ontario. This conference will share new perspectives on the creative and critical analysis processes, as well as other contemporary ideas and progressive approaches to teaching and inquiry in art and design education.

Art/Inter/Face:
Connecting through Critical Thinking
and Creative Action, 2010
Inspired by OCAD's innovative architecture, the conference will feature three days of workshops, studio classes, lectures and tours that provide access to the rich cultural facilities on site, at the Art Gallery of Ontario and in the surrounding community. The program offers a wide range of sessions in order to provide professional development and networking opportunities for art teachers, artists, art students and academics in art and design education.
Re-Vision, 2009
"Re-Vision" is a concept that addresses ideas of reflection, renewal and regeneration. As the revisions to the visual arts guidelines roll out from the Ministry of Education this fall, we reflect on what we know as best practices, and consider new ideas and actions that will help make our students successful. Practical and hands-on conference workshops, stimulating speakers, and a substantial trade fair will all help to inspire innovative teaching and learning for elementary, secondary, and post secondary art educators. The conference starts Friday night at OISE with the annual Taçon lecture in Art Education, and moves to George Brown College for weekend workshops.

Art Trek Conference, 2006
This year let the Ontario Society for Education through Art take you where no studio experience has gone before! OSEA's theme at Conference 2006 is ART TREK: Continuing the Studio Journey. At the core of our theme is the word "continuing." By definition, to "continue" means "to go on with a particular action, to persist", but it also means "to carry further in time and space, to develop; extend." Similar to our studio practice, "continuing" defines our long and winding voyage through various media, from the traditional to digital technologies. It also signifies the unwavering existence and importance of visual arts within our ever-changing world. Just as continuation is essential for our journey, the process of art making is essential to fully experience this journey. Art is the souvenir we bring back from these challenging mindscapes. ART TREK will be held at Rosedale Heights School of the Arts in Toronto.
